Great author, this is kind of a continuation to the Rangers Apprentice series. Different story line but some of the same characters. He has a humorous writing style that my teenage boys really enjoyed reading, and they typically don't enjoy reading at all. I even enjoyed reading them when my boys were finished with them.This is a good stand alone series, but to get the full story read the Rangers Apprentice first, then this series.
This is my favorite of the Brotherband series so far!! I love that it brings the Brotherband characters into the Ranger's Apprentice World. It made me so happy because I miss Araluen and the Rangers, and the intersection of the two worlds was well executed. My only complaint about the Brotherband series is that it goes over too many details about the changing of sails, etc, every time. I don't mind it once in a while, but it starts to wear a little thin. That being said. I am really enjoying this series, too, as the mother of two boys who introduced her to the Ranger's Apprentice. RA is still by far my favorite of the two, but this one is fabulous in its own right.
This is definitely an amazing book. It's got just the right amount of humor, peril, and genius to make it an interesting read. I love the characters' personality. They're all slightly unique in their own way. I do wish that in the next book that the Heron crew meet Will and Halt and Horace. It would really improve the storyline. (If you're reading this, John A. Flanagan, please take this suggestion into consideration. Thanks!) Except for that small note, this is an overall enjoyable book.
Great to get back into the world of Hal and the Brotherband. This is a great new story in a similar style of the series. Fits in well and quality is consistent. A great read!
Scorpion Mountain is full of adventure, grand battles, brilliant schemes, friendship and lots of humor. John Flanagan's books are so awesome to read!
Love this author and both his series of books. A good read for maybe 10 years old and up.
All of John Flanagan's books in this series, and The Ranger's Apprentice are absolutely AMAZING. Decided to proof read them for my daughter, and I got more into them than either of us expected, to the point that we both stayed up till 3 a.m. reading. Incredible books.
I really liked this book. I hope Flanagan makes more.
I buy these for my son and then read them myself. Yea, yea, I'm an adolescent at heart with receding hair and gums, but they really are great fun. Snarling bad guys and stout hearted good guys, what more could you ask for?
