My son loves the book.
A fantastic collection of entertaining and education experiments!I voluntarily read an advanced copy.
I will forever be grateful that I found a review of this book in my local newspaper and immediately ordered it from Amazon. I have an M.S. in Curriculum & Instruction and am a homeschooler with three teenage daughters (14, 15, 16). The scariest part of doing middle school homeschool for me has always been the Chemistry block. With my two oldest daughters we did Nutrition (sugars, fats, oils, proteins, etc) but I knew in my heart that we hadn't done "real Chemistry."This year I was determined to do it correctly and so I shelled out big bucks for a CHEM C3000.Then I found this book and we have done every single chapter from it, loved it, and the "official kit" is languishing dusty on a shelf. This book is written in a really kid-friendly way but it goes deep. The experiments are well organized and not too hard to make happen. (Note: the chapters build on one another so don't just skip around.) And Theodore Gray's fantastic elements deck is a perfect complement to this book.From the first Hydrogen experiment, where we went out to the sidewalk with a meter stick and a piece of chalk and measured and walked the distance from the sole proton in Hydrogen's nucleus all the way out to its sole electron TO SCALE, I knew this book had found a different way to present Chemistry to kids. This book is super-hands on and fun while maintaining academic rigor. I am so grateful to Sean Connolly for writing it and I can't wait to read more of his work!!!
